It is a moderately challenging trek making it ideal for fit beginners and experienced trekkers alike. The most popular route from Viswema offers a gradual ascent followed by a steep 1 hour climb, then flattens out into a scenic walk across the valley's grassy plateau. While the trek does not require technical skills, decent fitness, proper footwear, and mental readiness are essential.

When is the best time to do the Dzukou Valley Trek?

The best time is from June to September for blooming flowers, or October to February for clear skies and crisp mountain views.

Travespert's base camp for the Dzukou Valley Trek is located in Jakhama Village, a peaceful hillside village about 18 km from Kohima, the capital of Nagaland.

You must reach on Day 1 of your trek at:
- Travespert Dzukou Base in Jakhama by 8:00 AM, or
- Viswema Village Sumo Station by 8:30 AM

You can arrive at the starting point on your own, or Travespert can arrange transportation from Kohima to either Jakhama or Viswema upon request.

We highly recommend that you arrive in Kohima, Jakhama or Viswema a day before. For example, if Day 1 of your trek is 25th July, book your tickets to reach by 24th July. This gives you a buffer for unexpected delays and lets you rest well before starting your trek.

Kohima is easily accessible by road from Dimapur. However, there are stretches prone to frequent landslides, often leading to delays. Keep this in mind while planning your journey.

The easiest ways to reach Kohima:
- Fly to Dimapur, then take a direct taxi (shared or private) from Dimapur Airport to Kohima ISBT.
- Take a train to Dimapur, then take a direct taxi (shared or private) to Kohima ISBT.

Jakhama is 18 km from the main centre of Kohima. Depart from Kohima ISBT Bus Stand or BOC Taxi Stand; it takes about 30-40 minutes.

Good to know

Not Suitable For: Individuals with mobility issues or severe respiratory conditions, as the Dzukou Valley trek involves steep climbs and uneven terrain. Very young children (below 8 years) or elderly travellers (above 62 years) may find the high-altitude trek physically demanding. Also not suited to those unaccustomed to basic camping conditions, or luxury seekers.
