Know before you go:

  • Be mentally prepared for a midnight wake-up at 1:30 AM for the Dong Valley sunrise trek.
  • Basic Amenities, Campsites / Resort in Tilam offer basic but comfortable facilities. Carry personal hygiene items and warm clothing.
  • Cold Weather, nights and early mornings can be freezing, especially in Dong Valley. Pack thermals, gloves, and a windproof jacket.
  • Limited Connectivity, expect little to no mobile network in remote areas like Kaho and Dong. Inform close contacts in advance. Only Airtel connectivity is available, even which is not reliable.
  • Moderate Trekking, the Dong Valley trek is short but steep. Good physical fitness is required, and sturdy trekking shoes are recommended.
  • Travel Light, carry only essentials during the trek. Leave heavy bags at the Campsite / Resort.
  • Power Backup, power cuts are common in this region. Carry a power bank and flashlight/headlamp.
  • Respect Local Culture at Kaho and Dong as these are sensitive border villages. Please respect customs, ask before clicking pictures, and avoid littering.
  • Weather Dependency: The trip schedule may slightly change based on weather and road conditions.
  • ID Proof Mandatory: Carry a government-issued ID. An Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Indian Nationals and for foreign individuals Protected Area Permit is required to enter Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Local Cuisine & Food Preferences:
    • Expect simple, wholesome meals with local flavours (rice, dal, vegetables, momos, thukpa).
    • Jain or very specific dietary preferences may not be easily available. Inform in advance.
    • Carry dry fruits, packaged snacks, or instant food for emergencies as you never know when hunger strikes.
  • Environmental Responsibility:
    • Help keep Dong clean, avoid littering, especially near rivers, monasteries, and heritage sites
